Most business owners are sitting on opportunities they have not been shown yet.

I have seen it throughout my career. Hardworking people who have built something real, a business, a property portfolio, a family farm, a practice they have given everything to, who are receiving advice that keeps their books in order but never asks the bigger question. What could you be doing with what you have built?

That question is at the core of why we built Lumos Advisory. At the heart of it, this firm exists because we genuinely want to help people build wealth and build a life. Not just manage their compliance. Not just file their returns. Actually help them get somewhere.

That only happens when the advice is integrated, the team is sharp and the people sitting across the table from a client understand not just their numbers but their world.

Introducing the Lumos Summit

This July, we held the very first Lumos Summit in Brisbane, bringing together 53 team members from across our nine offices in Queensland and New South Wales for two full days of learning, connection and honest conversation about what we can do better for our clients. It was the first of many.

I wanted every person in our firm, whether they are an accountant, a financial planner, a mortgage broker or a receptionist, to walk away with a sharper understanding of the landscape our clients are operating in. So we brought in specialists across tax law, financial planning and investment markets. Not just to stay informed, but to understand what the changes mean in practice for the real families and businesses we work with every day.

The 2026 Federal Budget has introduced some of the most significant shifts to how Australian families and business owners structure their wealth in a generation. Our team spent two days immersed in exactly that, so that when you sit down with us, we already know what questions to ask.

What Great Financial Advice for Business Owners Actually Looks Like

There is a version of financial advice that is purely reactive. Your BAS gets lodged, your tax return gets filed, your books stay in order. That is compliance and it matters. But it is not advice.

The business owners who build lasting wealth have someone asking the better question. Not “is everything in order” but “what could we be doing with what you have?”

At Lumos we see the full picture. Your revenue, your surplus, your assets, your obligations and where you want to be in ten years. That lets us have a different kind of conversation. One about whether your structure still makes sense, whether there is a smarter way to use what you are generating and what your business and your family actually need next.

Accounting, tax, financial planning, lending and succession planning all working together under one strategy. Not separate advisers in silos. One firm, one picture, one plan.

We Start With a Plan, Not a Product

Before we make any recommendation, we want to understand where you are trying to get to. That sounds obvious. In practice, most advisers skip it.

Every new client at Lumos starts with a Foundation Review. We map your goals, your current position and the gap between the two. Then we work out which parts of our firm are best placed to help you close it. That might be financial planning and investment advice. It might be finance to fund new equipment or expand your operations. Often it is both, working together.

We do this before we jump into any one area. Because the right answer in isolation is rarely the right answer for the whole picture.

For existing clients, we are encouraging everyone to undertake a Strategic Reset this financial year. Given the significance of the recent Federal Budget changes, now is the right time to take a step back, reassess your position and make sure the decisions you are making today are setting you up for where you want to be tomorrow.

Why a Connected Team Delivers Better Advice

Good advice does not happen in isolation. It happens when accountants, financial planners, mortgage brokers and strategic advisers are all working from the same page.

That is why the Lumos Summit matters to me. Fifty-three people from across Queensland and New South Wales, sitting in the same room, learning together, challenging each other and coming away sharper at what they do.

When your Lumos adviser sits down with you, they are not just bringing their own expertise. They are bringing the knowledge of an entire firm that invests in staying ahead. We have always been one team. Getting everyone together strengthens that, and a stronger team gives you better advice.

The Financial Landscape Is Changing. We Are Staying Ahead of It.

Australian families and small business owners are navigating one of the most complex financial environments in recent memory. Tax laws are shifting, structuring strategies that worked for years are being revisited and the decisions you make now will have long-term consequences for your wealth, your business and your family.

The firms that serve their clients well in this environment treat education as a core part of how they operate. Not a one-off. Not a tick-box exercise. A genuine, ongoing commitment to knowing more so they can do more for the people they work with.

That is what the Lumos Summit is. Excellence has no ceiling, and I intend to keep proving that with this team.

Is There More We Could Be Doing For You?

If you have ever wondered whether your current adviser is asking the right questions, or whether there is more your Lumos team could be doing for your situation, the answer is probably yes. And I would love to start that conversation.
